DC-DC Converters, AC-DC Power Supplies, Battery Chargers & Sine Wave Inverters for Critical Industrial Applications

ABSOPULSE Electronics Ltd is a Canadian original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of heavy-duty switch-mode power conversion products. Since 1982 our engineering team has specialised in one discipline only: converting power reliably inside machines, vehicles, vessels, substations and plants where ambient temperatures swing, supply rails collapse, dust and salt intrude, and maintenance access is expensive.

Every converter, power supply, charger and inverter is designed, prototyped, tested and manufactured in our own 80,000 sq ft facility in Ottawa, Ontario — so specification changes, qualification testing and production traceability stay under one roof. Standard platforms are adapted to your voltages, cooling method, enclosure and standards requirements, which is why most of what we ship is custom or semi-custom rather than catalogue stock.

Why Engineers Specify ABSOPULSE

Heavy-duty power supplies designed and built to your exact specification. No matter how unusual the power conversion requirement or how demanding the operating environment, there is a strong chance we have already delivered a qualified solution for a comparable project.

Designs target an operating life of up to 30 years. Conservative component derating, minimal part counts, protected magnetics and sealed or encapsulated construction keep units running through vibration, conductive dust, humidity and wide temperature swings. Some of our earliest delivered power supplies have now been in continuous service for almost four decades.

We are primarily a custom power supply design house. Our engineers re-work proven topologies to match your input rails, output rails, regulation and ripple limits, inrush and hold-up behaviour, connector interfaces, mechanical envelope and cooling constraints — then document and qualify the result for production.

Prototyping, magnetics, assembly, potting, burn-in and final electrical test all take place in our Ottawa, Canada facility. Keeping the process in-house shortens engineering change cycles, protects traceability and lets us support long product lifecycles with consistent, repeatable builds.

Choose pure convection cooling with heatsink-assembly fins, conduction-cooled baseplates, fan-assisted builds with heavy-duty filters, fully encapsulated modules, or IP66-rated die-cast aluminium enclosures that resist powerful water jets, metallic dust, fog, sand, oil, salt and insect ingress.

We work directly with original equipment manufacturers, rolling stock and vehicle builders, electrical utilities, municipalities, consulting engineers, system integrators and distributors — from small specialist enterprises to some of the largest corporations in the world.

When you call, you speak to a knowledgeable member of our team rather than an automated queue. Technical enquiries submitted by email receive a prompt, engineer-reviewed reply, and application support continues through prototyping, qualification and production.

We take adherence to environmental standards and material sourcing regulations seriously, and maintain a published Environmental and Conflict Minerals Policy covering our supply chain and manufacturing operations.

Engineering Capability

From Requirement Sheet to Qualified Production Unit

A structured engineering process keeps custom power conversion projects predictable — technically, mechanically and commercially.

1. Requirement Review

We review input rails, load profiles, transients, hold-up needs, ambient temperature, cooling access, mounting envelope, connectors and applicable standards before quoting.

2. Design & Prototype

Field-proven topologies are adapted rather than invented from scratch, shortening development time while retaining the reliability record of the parent platform.

3. Test, Qualify, Manufacture

Electrical characterisation, thermal verification, burn-in and documented final test precede volume production in our own facility, with lifecycle support afterwards.

Buyer FAQ

Questions Purchasing and Design Teams Ask Us Most

DC-DC converters and AC-DC power supplies are built from a few Watts to more than 10kW, while DC-AC and AC-AC sine wave products span 15VA to over 10kVA at 50Hz, 60Hz or 400Hz. Units can be parallel-connected or integrated into 19"/23" racks for higher system power and redundancy.

Yes — custom design is our core business. Since 1982 we have delivered thousands of custom and semi-custom power conversion designs, including unusual input/output combinations, restricted mechanical envelopes, fan-free cooling requirements and sealed enclosures for washdown or subsea duty.

Designs target an operating life of up to 30 years in demanding environments. Long-life series eliminate optocouplers from the feedback loop, reduce total component count and rely on conservatively rated parts with convection or conduction cooling wherever the thermal budget allows.

Yes. IP66-rated die-cast aluminium enclosures and fully encapsulated assemblies are available in ratings up to 500W and beyond, protecting against powerful water jets, metallic dust, fog, sand, oil, salt and insects typical of mining, marine and outdoor infrastructure sites.

Send input voltage range and source type, required outputs with currents and tolerances, load transient behaviour, ambient temperature extremes, cooling and mounting constraints, enclosure or ingress requirements, target standards and expected annual volumes. That package usually allows our engineers to propose a platform immediately.

All products are designed and manufactured in our purpose-built 80,000 sq ft facility at 110 Walgreen Rd., Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and shipped directly to customers worldwide.
